Not only will you have to take the civil service exam, you will need to pass a physical exam as well. The exam tests your agility, vision, hearing, and strength. This will also include a drug and lie detector test.

A career in public service can be extremely fulfilling. You can continue to grow in the career by becoming a detective, crime scene investigator, or a federal law enforcement agent.

Here are some possibilities if you want to know what can you do with a criminal just degree.

You can be a police officer, a crime scene investigator or even an FBI agent.

You can work at a prison, for border patrol or for a private security firm.
If you want to know what can you do with a criminal just degree, you should ask yourself some of these questions before you decide to pursue criminal justice as a major:

Do you have a clean criminal record?

Do you perform well and make good decisions under pressure?

Are you active and physically fit?

Can you help people under difficult circumstances?

Do you hold yourself accountable and handle personal responsibility well?

Do you have a lot of self-discipline?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then you should keep exploring what can you do with a criminal just degree.

That’s because employers of criminal justice majors look for those types of traits as well as people who don’t have a criminal history, just as much as they look at your schooling when hiring.

So understand, if you want to know what can you do with a criminal just degree, that this major in particular isn’t just about bookwork. It’s about knowing right from wrong, always making the right decisions, and having a high moral character.

What can I do with a criminal just degree?

I can earn an associates or bachelors degree in criminal just — short for criminal justice. I will study cops, courts and corrections — known as the “3 Cs” while earning my degree.

So what can I do with a criminal just degree?

If I earn my associates degree, a diploma which usually takes two years to complete, I can get entry-level jobs with police departments, in prisons or jails, or in courthouses. I can work as a police officer in some departments, in security at various governmental buildings or for a private company, or maybe as a clerk at the courthouse.

What can I do with a criminal just degree if I decide to go on and get my bachelors degree?

Earning my bachelors in criminal justice opens up many more job possibilities. Many larger police departments require officers to have a bachelors degree. I could also work as a crime scene investigator, be an aide to a judge, or even apply with the FBI.

So what can I do with a criminal just degree when it comes to my salary?

That’s hard to pinpoint because of the wide range of jobs available. But social workers in the criminal justice field make an average of $45,000 a year. And a police officer makes an average of $53,000 a year.

So that’s what I can do with a criminal just degree. Sounds pretty great to me!

Should you get college credits for work experience?

If you work in a skilled job, you know that often your career requires a hundred and ten percent of your time and effort, to excel. If you’ve reached a point where you can’t be promoted or find a better paying job because you lack a degree, or need a graduate level degree, you know how frustrating a position this is to be in. After all, if you had college credits for work experience, you’d already have a higher degree, right?

In the past you’ve been faced with a choice: either take time away from your career–which means not being the very best at what you do–to go back to school, or continue to be the best, but never receive the opportunity to advance. But things have changed. Today’s workplace is incredibly fast paced, and requires more on-the-job learning and training than ever before. You can’t survive without being up to date, and the result of this is having a college level education without college.

Universities have begun to recognize this, and offer college credits for work experience.

How do I go about getting college credits for work experience?

It depends on a few factors. You have to sort through the scams and find a school that will be respected, of course. There are also online services that function as student/university “matchmakers”–they’ll evaluate your situation and needs, and suggest the right school. Whether you choose yourself or go through a service, your college credits for work experience will be the result of having various forms of documentation and/or portfolios reviewed by a counselor. If you qualify for a degree, you’ll pay a tuition/graduation fee to the school. A good online university will provide you with transcripts, a diploma, and contacts for confirmation, should a future potential employer need to verify your degree.

What are degrees based on life experience?

Generally speaking, degrees based on life experience indicate college degrees that are received based not upon classroom participation, exams, or standardized testing, but on your life experience.

What do I need to earn one of these degrees based on life experience?

You need to have experience that proves your understanding of your target area of study is equal to that of a college graduate who majored in that subject. The qualifications will vary from school to school, and from degree to degree. For example, a bachelors degree in criminal science might be earned by showing documentation of work as a police officer, and the related certifications and workshops you received and attended.

What difference do degrees based on life experience make?

While having a diploma does not, in and of itself, mean that you know more or have more skill, it does have a practical purpose. Degrees based on life experience are a way to quantify your knowledge for employers. In your current job, you may find there’s a salary cap based on education level. When job hunting, having a degree is even more important, as potential employers may instruct HR to discard resumes that don’t meet a minimum education requirement. That’s especially true in today’s excessively competitive job market.

What advantages do degrees based on life experience have over traditional university degrees?

The two main benefits to getting your life experience degree, rather than a traditional degree, are time and money. It’s counter-intuitive to take time away from your career to go back to school, especially if doing so will result in your losing ground in your current job or going into debt between jobs. And earning a degree based on life experience, while not free, is much less expensive than getting your degree the conventional way.
